Gareth Southgate non è più l’allenatore dell’Inghilterra. La nazionale inglese di calcio è reduce dal secondo posto agli Europei 2024.
Da orgoglioso inglese, è stato l’onore della mia vita giocare per l’Inghilterra e allenare l’Inghilterra. Ha significato tutto per me, e ho dato tutto me stesso.
Ma è tempo di cambiare, e di un nuovo capitolo. La finale di domenica a Berlino contro la Spagna è stata la mia ultima partita da allenatore dell’Inghilterra.
Sono entrato a far parte della FA nel 2011, determinato a migliorare il calcio inglese. In quel periodo, compresi otto anni come allenatore dell’Inghilterra maschile, sono stato supportato da alcune persone brillanti che hanno i miei più sentiti ringraziamenti.
Non avrei potuto avere nessuno al mio fianco meglio di Steve Holland. È uno degli allenatori più talentuosi della sua generazione ed è stato immenso.
Ho avuto il privilegio di guidare un grande gruppo di giocatori in 102 partite. Ognuno di loro è stato orgoglioso di indossare i tre leoni sulle proprie magliette, e sono stati un onore per il loro paese in così tanti modi.
La squadra che abbiamo portato in Germania è piena di giovani talenti entusiasmanti e possono vincere il trofeo che tutti sogniamo. Sono così orgoglioso di loro e spero che sosterremo i giocatori e la squadra del St. George’s Park e la FA che si sforzano ogni giorno di migliorare il calcio inglese e capire il potere che il calcio ha di guidare un cambiamento positivo.
I miei ringraziamenti speciali vanno allo staff che ha fornito a me e ai giocatori un supporto incondizionato negli ultimi otto anni. Il loro duro lavoro e il loro impegno mi hanno ispirato ogni giorno e sono molto grato a loro: il brillante “team dietro la squadra”.
Abbiamo i migliori tifosi del mondo e il loro supporto ha significato molto per me. Sono un tifoso dell’Inghilterra e lo sarò sempre.
Non vedo l’ora di guardare e festeggiare mentre i giocatori continuano a creare ricordi più speciali e a connettere e ispirare la nazione come sappiamo che possono fare.

As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.
But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter. Sunday’s final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager.
I joined the FA in 2011, determined to improve English football. In that time, including eight years as England men’s manager, I have been supported by some brilliant people who have my heartfelt thanks.
I could not have had anyone better alongside me than Steve Holland. He is one of the most talented coaches of his generation, and has been immense.
I have had the privilege of leading a large group of players in 102 games. Every one of them has been proud to wear the three lions on their shirts, and they have been a credit to their country in so many ways.
The squad we took to Germany is full of exciting young talent and they can win the trophy we all dream of. I am so proud of them, and I hope we get behind the players and the team at St. George’s Park and the FA who strive every day to improve English football, and understand the power football has to drive positive change.
My special thanks go to the backroom staff who have provided the players and me with unstinting support over the last eight years. Their hard work and commitment inspired me every day, and I am so grateful to them – the brilliant ‘team behind the team’.
We have the best fans in the world, and their support has meant the world to me. I’m an England fan and I always will be.
I look forward to watching and celebrating as the players go on to create more special memories and to connect and inspire the nation as we know they can.
